Marilyn has 20 years of management and leadership experience in cultural and European programmes in the public and local government service. She serves as a member of the panel of experts on European Capitals of Culture at the European Commission and is also a member of the European Urban Initiative Pool of Experts. Marilyn also sits on the expert advisory group for PACESETTERS one of Europe’s largest culture and climate transition projects. Marilyn has been a key driver in several European designations for Galway including the European Capital of Culture and UNESCO City of Film and is a well-regarded expert on European funding and partnerships.
Currently she is Chief Executive at the Galway Culture Company, which is a partner to many organisations in the areas of European programmes and cultural networks. A significant part of her career to date has been ensuring that culture and art is a key driver for development that links with other sectors such as research, tourism, education, science, business, technology, environment, rural and urban development, climate, health and placemaking.
