Ian will be speaking in the 'Culture's Lifeblood' session at the Quality of Life: Remaking the post-industrial city day conference in Manchester on Friday 4 October 2024

Since co-founding SimpsonHaugh in 1987, Ian has played an integral role in building the practice’s strong portfolio and reputation as leading urban and civic architects.

Ian is a passionate advocate of revitalising cities, using contemporary architectural language and high-quality design, to create sustainable, and viable propositions which engender a sense of community through identity, and act as symbols of civic pride, confidence, and ambition.

With a significant architectural portfolio in the UK and internationally, Ian initiates and oversees all design work across the practice’s studios in Manchester, London, and Birmingham.  SimpsonHaugh has contributed to the London skyline through the design and delivery of the iconic One Blackfriars, Circus West Village at Battersea Power Station, and Dollar Bay.  Regionally, the practice has played a major role in regenerating Manchester City Centre, having been involved in several strategic regeneration frameworks to include the recent creation of New Jackson, a thriving neighbourhood that has regenerated an underutilised area in Manchester.  The design and delivery of 4 Angel Square, a 5* NABERS rated office scheme which is net zero carbon in operation, has also contributed to the new NOMA business district.

Ian is regularly commissioned as a keynote speaker and has delivered thought-provoking lectures to national and international audiences.
