David Rudlin is one of the leading urban designers and urbanists in the UK. He is a former Chair of the Academy of Urbanism, winner of the 2014 Wolfson Economic’s Prize, and Visiting Professor at Manchester School of Architecture. David joined BDP as Director of Urban Design in 2022 managing urban design and masterplanning projects across the UK and overseeing the urban design profession across BDP’s offices worldwide.

He is author of four books including Building the 21st Century Home (2009) and Climax City (2019 and winner of the Urban Design Book Award in 2020). His new book High Street written with Vicky Payne and Lucy Montague was published in July 2023. He also writes a monthly column for Building Design Magazine.

Prior to joining BDP David was principle of URBED one of the UK’s longest standing and best respected urban design practices. He is a planner by training and started his career with Manchester City Council.
