Cathal O’Boyle is the City Architect for Cork City and a Fellow of the RIAI.
He studied Architecture in Queens University Belfast and Oxford Brookes University graduating 1995. He worked for two decades as an Architect in Private Practice mostly in Dublin and Cork rising to director level working on a wide range of building typologies from Housing to Healthcare. Since 2013 he has worked as an Architect in the Public Sector in Limerick and Cork City. His professional interest in Urban Design and Low Energy Design led to receiving master’s degrees in urban design from Strathclyde University and Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies from the University of East London. He is now leading Cork City Council’s Architect’s department supporting in design solutions for the development of Ireland’s Second City and networking with sister cities across Ireland and Europe to respond to growing urbanisation of the population and the provision of high-quality places for people.
