Carlos is an urban planner and designer with a focus on sustainable approaches. He graduated from Universidad Simón Bolívar (Venezuela) with final research on urban sprawl at ITESM (Mexico). He started his career in private consultancies, working in multiple projects including new development masterplanning, public realm infrastructure, and strategic policy. During this time, he also pursued postgraduate studies at Universidad Central de Venezuela and served as an assistant lecturer at his home university, teaching urban design.
After 6 years working in Latin America, Carlos moved to Europe and completed a joint MSc in Urban Climate and Sustainability in Finland, the UK, and Spain. He has since deepened his experience in environmental and sustainability matters in their intersection with urbanism. He has participated in various projects and research initiatives focused on the spatial applications of climate policies at the local scale. He currently works for Sustrans, managing a team that develops strategy and infrastructure for sustainable transport in different local authorities in Scotland.
Carlos's been a member of the Young Urbanists since the end of 2019.
The Young Urbanists network is a platform with great potential to foster a generation of professionals striving for a more conscious practice of urbanism. I joined the Steering Committee to facilitate knowledge sharing among members and to fully leverage the diverse backgrounds and expertise within our community. Together, we can explore our role in scaling climate and sustainable solutions to benefit people, places, and the broader built and natural environments.
