For September's Urbanism Hour, we'll be joined by OneLondon's Pooran Desai and design activist Satpal Kaur.
Pooran Desai OBE HonFRIBA
Pooran studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities before spending three decades in sustainability as serial social entrepreneur, author and advisor to companies and government.
In 1994, he co-founded Bioregional, working with colleagues to establish enterprises in sustainable forestry, organic farming and recycling, before putting together Beddington Zero fossil Energy Development (BedZED) in south London, the world’s first zero carbon urban village.
In 2002 he coined the term One Planet Living® (OPL), leading an international initiative embedding OPL across all sectors including $30bn of zero carbon real estate. OPL served as the basis for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2019 he founded OnePlanet.com, a digital platform enabling users to ‘join the dots’ to create resilient, regenerative communities.
Satpal Kaur
Satpal is the Founder and Principal of satpalkaaur.com, a design activist firm that believes Architecture is a tool for Equity, Change & Activism championing Healthy space. She is a recipient of the 40 Under 40 Award by Building Design+Construction. Satpal has been branded as a High Performance Building Activist and thought leader because of her passion to implement cutting edge technologies that merges Building Science and environmental justice in architecture.
Satpal designed the first Multifamily Passive Houses in New York City and championed different envelope typologies from landmarked SSUS Ship Conservatory to Window-AC unit prototypes. She is a believer of holistically integrating clients to actively become part of the sustainable revolution pursuing a comfortable and just environment. She is a sought after Public Speaker.
This Urbanism Hour will be chaired by Matt Lally, AoU Board Director and Director in Arup's Integrated City Planning team in London.
