The AoU’s Here & Now Journal is published online quarterly, and hosts a range of longer and shorter articles as well as creative pieces, reviews, and opinions. We welcome contributions from our Membership across the various elements of the journal.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved. For more info, email [email protected]
Join the Editorial Team
The Here & Now editorial team meet regularly to plan each issue, and independently undertake tasks to collect and curate articles, and co-edit each journal issue. The team currently comprises Harrison Brewer, Connie Dales, Harry Knibb, and David Rudlin.

Submit a letter to the Editor
Share your commentary on a previous article or relevant theme in the urbanism world for inclusion in the Journal. Please use the form linked here and submit a maximum of 250 words.
MyPlace
MyPlace articles are a single photo accompanied by a descriptive explanation. The photo should be of you in ‘your place’ – this could be a park, building, bench, you name it! – with a 250 word accompaniment explaining why this place is notable to you. Examples of MyPlace articles can be found here or linked below.
- The Farrell Centre, Newcastle – Sir Terry Farrell
- Tower Hamlet Cemetery Park – Meg Johannessen
- Riva di Solto, Italy – Victoria Thornton
You can submit an entry for MyPlace using this form or by emailing [email protected]
ArtPlace
The ArtPlace archive is a virtual gallery of artwork depicting a range of urban environments, from sketches, to models, and everything in between. We invite your inner artist to share a piece of artwork, with a short description to explain what it depicts and why you created it. Examples of ArtPlace articles can be found here or linked below.
- A Million Miles Away – Angela Brady
- Jodhpur, India – Shruti Hemani
- I came across Mr Murphy of an evening at Q10 – Gerard O’Brien
You can submit an entry for ArtPlace using this form or by emailing [email protected]
Review a book
The Book Review is a recurring feature in which one of the AoU’s members read and review a book that speaks to urbanism – whether through a political, practical, or creative lens. If you’re interested in reading and reviewing a book for a future edition of the Here & Now Journal, and/or if you have a suggestion of a book that could be reviewed, please send an email, with examples of your written work, to [email protected]
